Form + Substance

Form + Substance marks the first time Goldstein and Greenbach have exhibited their work together, offering a compelling dialogue between their distinct artistic practices. Goldstein, a ceramic artist, presents tactile sculptures inspired by the natural environment, while Greenbach’s mixed media paintings explore themes of immigration, identity, and social responsibility.

Goldstein is known for his richly textured ceramic forms that invite sensory engagement. His work emphasizes surface variation, guiding viewers on a tactile journey—from the raw roughness of clay to smooth, undulating finishes—encouraging a deeper appreciation of both form and material.

Greenbach’s featured series, Be Miep, occupies the intersection of color, narrative, and texture. Created with layers of paint, paper, and raw canvas, the series reflects contemporary conversations around immigration and calls viewers to take action. The title draws inspiration from Miep Gies, who helped hide Anne Frank and others during World War II.

Greenbach’s work is also rooted in her personal experiences volunteering at a local food pantry. As concerns over ICE raids grew, she became part of a small group delivering food to families reluctant to wait in the outside line. Order forms—created in Spanish to preserve choice and dignity—became the foundation for her artwork. These pieces capture the emotional realities faced by immigrant communities and emphasize a collective responsibility to care for one another.
